Milan sign Mark van Bommel from Bayern Munich

AC Milan have completed the transfer of holding midfielder Mark van Bommel from Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee.

The Italians are being plagued by injuries in midfield and were therefore keen to add some fresh blood to their ranks in the January transfer window.

Van Bommel's agent Mino Raiola confirmed on Monday that the player was on the verge of joining AC Milan and the Bavarians have now confirmed that the deal has been finalised, with the Dutchman signing a six-month deal.

The 33-year-old midfielder joined Bayern Munich from Barcelona in the summer of 2006 and has since made well over 100 league appearances for the German champions. However, he was no longer an undisputed starter at Bayern following the signing of Gustavo Luis this winter and therefore wanted to leave the club.

His contract with the Bavarians ran until the end of the season, meaning that he has joined AC Milan in a cut-price deal.
