Liverpool After Ronaldinho

According to Italian media sources, Roy Hodgson is mulling over an incredible move to take Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho from AC Milan in order to bolster his creative options in midfield.

At 30 years of age, Ronaldinho has enjoyed a truly glittering career in the game. During his 88 international caps, he has won the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and has dazzled the world with his skill and poise. Of course, his finishing is extremely proficient also, as his 32 goals for Brazil testify.

Equally impressive is Ronaldinho's club career, having starred across the world for Grêmio, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and currently at the San Siro.

Interestingly, Ronaldinho has become the latest player to fall foul of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's motor-mouthed opinions in recent weeks, when the Swede expressed his preference for combining with Filipo Inzaghi in Serie A.

"I feel freer with Pippo because I can move again," said Ibrahimovic. "When I play with the Brazilians, I feel more compelled to stay in the area and do not have freedom."

Now, as Ronaldinho's contract with the Rossoneri is set to run out at the end of the season and coach Massimiliano Allegri seems reluctant to include him, Liverpool have emerged as potential suitors.

They will have to contend with Los Angeles Galaxy, who have reportedly put together an alluring financial package for the man who won consecutive FIFA World Player of the Year awards between 2004 and 2005, apparently equal to €7 million a year.

Early last month, Ronaldinho's brother, Roberto de Assis, who doubles up as his agent, refused to rule out an exit from Milan. Understandably, though, did not want to tread on any toes.

"Everything in football is possible," explained a magnanimous de Assis. "My brother has a contract until until 2011 and there is still time to talk."

"We have respect for the club, and will calmly arrange a good time to discuss a renewal."

"I've always said that we will talk to Milan before talking to other teams. There is no hurry. My brother just wants to remain focussed on playing."

Although Ronaldinho is probably past his excellent best, there is no doubt that he would be most welcome in the Premier League and Damien Comoli, the new Director of Football Strategy at Anfield, could have embarked on an extremely exciting pursuit.
