Varese 2-0 Milan: Rossoneri Suffer Shock Pre-Season Loss
Milan has suffered a shock 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Serie B side Varese in a pre-season friendly.
The Rossoneri were down a goal after six minutes, when Daniele Buzzegoli and Pereira combined to give the home side the lead. Buzzegoli sent a long pass out to the left to Pereira, who found space and spotted his team-mate in the centre of the penalty area. Delivering a low cross, Buzzegoli finished the move off past Cristian Abbiati to give the side the advantage.
Pato had a chance to capitalise on a goalkeeping howler 10 minutes later, when Mathieu Moreau parried a shot on goal in front of the Brazilian. But the Varese shot-stopper was good enough to block the attempt and stop the attack.
On the half-hour mark, Kakhaber Kaladze made a woeful pass across the box, when Giampietro Zecchin pounced on the loose ball, laid a pass onto Cellini, and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net, to make it 2-0.
The Rossoneri stepped up the pace, and tried to bring themselves back into the match, but could only manage long-range shots on goal, not able to breach the Varese defence from close range.
It is their first loss under new coach Massimiliano Allegri.
