Milan Tracking Nicolas Otamendi And Joao Miranda

AC Milan are looking towards South America for replacements in defence, according to tuttomercatoweb.

Velez Sasfield defender Nicolas Otamendi and Sao Paulo centre-back Joao Miranda appear to be targets for the Serie A side, who went trophyless last season and were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 by Manchester United.

With the likes of Giuseppe Favalli, Massimo Oddo, and Kakha Kaladze all on their way out of the San Siro, more depth is needed at the back, especially since veteran Alessandro Nesta is injury prone.

Otamendi, at the World Cup with Argentina, would appear the more difficult acquisition due to both his price and other interested parties, even though he has claimed it would be 'an honour' to play with the Italian giants. Meanwhile, Miranda is more within reach for the Rossoneri, who already have a large Brazilian contingent in their squad.

Miranda already has experience in Europe, playing in Ligue 1 for Sochaux in the 2005-06 campaign before returning to his homeland.
