Official - Milan appoint Massimiliano Allegri to succeed Leonardo as manager

Massmiliano Allegri has taken over from Leonardo as AC Milan manager, signing a two-year deal as announced by the club on Friday.

The Serie A giants' official club website broke the news, bringing an end to months of speculation.

"A.C Milan communicates that Massimiliano Allegri is the new first team coach," the statement read.

"He has signed a deal until June 30, 2012."

The exact details over Allegri's wages have not yet been confirmed, but Milan are expected to unveil the Italian in a press conference over the coming days.

Sky Sport Italia claims there was a delay in his arrival because of an issue related to an £80,000 pay off bonus he and his assistants at Cagliari were set to receive after helping guide them to Serie A safety.

However, it is said Allegri refused the payment to speed up his exit from the club so he could join the Rossoneri, where he will take his assistants from Cagliari to Milan.
