AC Milan Join Race For Hamburg Defender Jerome Boateng

According to a report in Il Sussidiario, Champions League hopefuls AC Milan are closely monitoring the progress of highly rated Hamburger SV defender Jerome Boateng.

The Serie A titans are looking to add to the their defensive ranks in the summer transfer window and head coach Leonardo has supposedly made Boateng one of his primary targets.

The 21-year-old German international has developed into an important first player at HSV since joining the Rothosen from Hertha Berlin in 2007 and has been in impressive form this season.

Boateng's outstanding performances didn't go unnoticed in the rest of Europe and several clubs are believed to be keeping tabs on the young defender. Milan reportedly face stiff competition from city rivals Inter and English side Manchester City in the race for Boateng's signature.

The versatile defender has a fee release clause in his current Hamburg contract and can leave HSV for €12 million.
