Milan deny sale talk

Reports have hinted Russian gas giant Gazprom was preparing to buy a stake in the club, who finished third in Serie A this season.

Fininvest owner, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, was believed to have discussed selling an estimated 25 per cent stake in the club with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during his visit to Italy last month.

Only last week it was suggested that Gazprom was considering buying a minority stake in Berlusconi's holding company Fininvest, a report swiftly labelled 'totally groundless'.

With the rumours continuing to surface, Fininvest has attempted to put an end to the speculation once and for all by commenting: "We strongly denied a report on Friday. There is nothing to add."

Gazprom also rejected the report. "We deny it," said spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov.
