Milan After Ajax Defender Jan Vertonghen

Young defender Jan Vertonghen has attracted the interest of Italian powerhouse Milan with his excellent performances for Eredivisie side Ajax in the 2010-11 campaign, if a report on Sky Sport Italia is to be believed.

The Rossoneri are eager to add some fresh blood to their back line and they supposedly see Vertonghen as the perfect addition to their roster.

The Belgium international impressed the Milan scouts during Ajax's 1-1 Champions League draw against the Serie A titans on September 28. They have since been following Vertonghen's progress and are apparently confident that the versatile defender adds something to the Milan back-line.

Vertonghen came through the ranks of the Ajax youth academy and has developed into a key player at the Godenzonen since making his debut in 2006-07. The 23-year-old has made over 100 Eredivisie appearances so far.

The centre-back's current Ajax contract runs until the summer of 2013, but an offer in the region of €15 million could be enough to lure him away from the Amsterdam Arena.
